Why Republican?

We are Republican because we believe...

The strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person's dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.

In equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.

Free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.

The government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.

The proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.

The most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.

Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.

Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

The Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

History of the Douglas County Republican Party

The Good Fight

The Douglas County Republican Party has been in existence for many years. Dedicated Republicans like Steve Farris, Dan Munchnik, Bill Hembree, and Guy Hill met as a small group around a table in Shoney’s restaurant to discuss conservative politics.  They were Republican when being Republican was not cool.  However, things have changed in recent years.

The early nineties began a Republican revolution in Douglas County.  It began locally with young Bill Hembree overcoming the odds and winning the election for the 98th House Seat.  Then, in 1993, a young attorney, Perry McGuire, took the 30th District’s Senate seat from a century of Democrat Control.  Through out the nineties the Republican Party grew remarkably in membership and in elected representatives.

Today, the Douglas County Republican Party is committed to achieving the goal of ensures that all elected officials in Douglas County are dedicated Republicans.
